The Ocean is pivotal for life on Earth

The Ocean is key for us, covering over 70% of Earth’s surface and generating more than 50% of our oxygen, is essential to life. Yet, ocean health is in peril due to plastic and chemical pollution, overfishing, invasive species, and climate change. These threats, coupled with historical underinvestment in regenerative ocean sectors, jeopardize food security, coastal communities, and the livelihoods of millions dependent on the ocean.

THE OXYGEN WE BREATHE

The Ocean is producing 50% of all oxygen on Earth

THE CO2 WE PRODUCE

The Ocean is the carbon sink of the Planet, capturing 30% of our CO2 emissions and absorbing 93% of our excess heat.

THE FOOD WE EAT

3.5 billion people depend on the ocean for their food security, and 120 million people work directly in fisheries and aquaculture.

THE GOODS WE CONSUME

>80% of total goods consumed in the world transit over the Ocean, burning 280-300bn tons of heavy fuel oil each year

THE DATA WE EXCHANGE

>95% or the global Internet traffic is transported over submarine cables

BluKap impact measurement

BluKap has adopted the Ocean Impact Navigator™ to evaluate its investments based on clear and evidence-based KPIs.

It offers synergies with wider global, national or sector-specific impact, reporting and disclosure standards.
